Child Sexual Exploitation Child sexual exploitation is a type of sexual abuse in which children are sexually exploited for money, power or status.
Domestic Abuse Witnessing domestic abuse is child abuse, and teenagers can suffer domestic abuse in their relationships.
Drugs / Alcohol Children who are involved with drugs or alcohol, either using or distributing.
Emotional Abuse Children who are emotionally abused suffer emotional maltreatment or neglect. It's sometimes called psychological abuse and can cause children serious harm.
Fabricated / Induced Illness Fabricated or induced illness (FII) is a rare form of child abuse. It occurs when a parent or carer, usually the child's biological mother, exaggerates or deliberately causes symptoms of illness in the child. FII is also known as Munchausen's syndrome by proxy.
Female Genital Mutilation Female genital mutilation (FGM) is the partial or total removal of external female genitalia for non-medical reasons.
Gang Related Involvement Children who have been seen to interact with known gang members or who talk about gang related activities.
Grooming Children and young people can be groomed online or in the real world, by a stranger or by someone they know - for example a family member, friend or professional.
Harmful Sexual Behaviour Children and young people who develop harmful sexual behaviour harm themselves and others.
Mental Health Children who show signs of mental health issues. For example, sometimes this can be linked to self-harm or eating disorders.
Neglect Neglect is the ongoing failure to meet a child's basic needs. It's dangerous and children can suffer serious and long-term harm.
Online Abuse Online abuse is any type of abuse that happens on the web, whether through social networks, playing online games or using mobile phones.
Operation Encompass Report Operation Encompass provides an efficient, confidential channel of communication between police forces and Key Adults within schools. This enables the immediate and discrete recognition of the child's situation by the Key Adult, ensuring a secure and sympathetic environment is provided and the broader effects of abuse are addressed.
Peer on Peer Abuse Children who are being bullied by other children of a similar age, this can include verbal or physical abuse.
Physical Abuse Physical abuse is deliberately hurting a child causing injuries such as bruises, broken bones, burns or cuts.
Radicalisation Radicalisation happens when a person's thinking and behaviour become significantly different from how most of the members of their society and community view social issues and participate politically.
Self Harm Self-harm can take lots of physical forms, including cutting, burning, bruising, scratching, hair-pulling, poisoning and overdosing.
Sexual Abuse A child is sexually abused when they are forced or persuaded to take part in sexual activities. This doesn't have to be physical contact, and it can happen online.
Trafficking Child trafficking is a type of abuse where children are recruited, moved or transported and then exploited, forced to work or sold.
Concern The description of the concern for the student.
Were any other staff members involved? The name of any other members of staff who are involved with the concern.
Include Other Children The name of any other students who are involved with the concern. This list is populated from your Safeguard that's linked to your management information system (MIS).
Include Siblings on this concern If the student has siblings at this school, they appear here and you can add this record to their chronologies too. If set to Yes, Safeguard adds this new record to the listed students' chronology too.
Notify Staff

This only appears if the setting toggle is set to Yes, on the Software Settings page.

Any Safeguard user who is a member of staff. This sends them a secure email.

Manual Date

This only appears if the setting toggle is set to Yes, on the Software Settings page.

Opens a date picker so that you can select when the concern occurred. If you don't pick a date, Safeguard logs it with the current date and time.

Create Concern

This only appears if the setting toggle is set to Yes, on the Software Settings page.

Creates a record on the Student Profile page in the student's Chronology and places the student in the Latest New Concerns list for the DSL.
