Adding and editing custom categories

Procedure

  1. On the Smoothwall Portal home page, under the Your licensed products section, click Filter, and in the navigation pane, click Custom categories.
  2. To add a new custom category, click Add category.
  3. Type the Name for your new category. We recommend that you try to make this descriptive of the content that you're categorizing, for example, Gambling.
  4. Optionally, type a Description for your category, for example, Lottery sites.
  5. If you have a multitenant setup:
    • From the Tenant list, select if you want this category to be available for all tenants or select the tenant that you want it to be available for.
    • If you don't have a multitenant setup, you won't see this option.
  6. Under the URL list, in the URL box, type the website address that you want to add to your category.
  7. Optionally, type a descriptive Comment, for example, the reason for this category or who has requested it, and click + Add URL.
  8. Continue to add URLs for all the websites that you want to include in your category.
  9. When you are done, click Add category.

Follow-up tasks

  • To edit a category, next to the category that you want to adjust, click Edit. If you have a long list of categories, you can click in the Search box and start to type to filter the list in real time.
  • Note: Any changes are saved automatically.

    1. To change the custom category details, amend the Name and Description.
    2. To add more website URL addresses to the custom category:
      1. Under the URL list, in the URL box, type the website address that you want to add to your category.
      2. Optionally, type a descriptive Comment for your website and click Add URL.
      3. Continue to add URLs for all the websites that you want to include in your category.
    3. When you are done, to go back to the Custom categories page, click f Close.
  • To delete a custom category, right-click the category and click Delete.
  • Note: You can't delete the Custom allowed content or the Custom blocked content categories. These are built-in categories provided to you when you bought the Smoothwall Filter. However, you can add website addresses and domains to these.
