Before You Start

Note: This topic applies to the Leeds Release.

Before you start, we strongly recommend that you:

Consult your organization’s acceptable usage policy to determine what is acceptable when users access the Internet
Consult your organization’s security policy to determine the configuration that will suit your organization best
Determine where your Smoothwall installation will be located physically and how you will control physical access to it
Install, configure and test your Smoothwall in a test environment to ensure that you have the correct level of security before you install it in a production environment
Ensure everyone who will be working with your Smoothwall has good networking and information security skills, has received adequate Smoothwall training and can be trusted to carry out their duties professionally and without malice.

Note: If you have purchased Smoothwall appliances, you do not need to install the software separately. All appliances are shipped with the software installed.
