About the Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) Smoothwall service

The Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) is an Internet Standard protocol for collecting and organizing information about managed devices on IP networks and for modifying that information to change device behavior. Smoothwall offers a SNMP service that acts as an agent to gather system status information, such as, system name, location, contact information, live TCP and UDP connection tables, detailed network interface and usage statistics, network routing table, disk usage information and memory usage information.

When you turn on the SNMP Smoothwall service, the Smoothwall becomes a managed device and any SNMP Network Management System device that is a member of the same SNMP community can query all management data.

To view information and statistics provided by the system's SNMP service, you need a third-party SNMP management tool. Refer to the product documentation that accompanies your preferred SNMP management tool.
