Creating User Portals and controlling what users can do

Procedure

  1. On the SERVICES menu, under the User Portal submenu, click Portals.
  2. Under the Portals section, click New, type a Name for the User Portal and click Save.
    • To control bandwidth classes in this User Portal, under the Bandwidth management section, click Enable.
    • To manage web access in this User Portal, under the Portal permissions for web access management section, click Enabled.
      • To manage web access for groups in this User Portal, select the Allow control of groups option and from the groups list, select the groups that the user is authorized to block. To select multiple groups, hold CTRL or SHIFT and click all the groups that you want to include.
      • To manage web access for locations in this User Portal, select the Allow control of locations option and from the locations list, select the locations that the user is authorized to block. To select multiple locations, hold CTRL or SHIFT and click all the locations that you want to include.
    • To manage web filter lists in this User Portal, under the Portal filter list management section, click Enable for the Manage filter lists on User Portal option.
    • To turn on the policy tester for this User Portal, under the Policy tester section, click Enabled.
      • To manage block and allow requests to the Smoothwall administrator in this User Portal, select the Allow block/unblock requests option, and enter the Administrator's email address.
    • To run reports from this User Portal, under the Portal published reports and templates section, click Enable for the Reporting on User Portal option.
      • If you've multitenant licensed Smoothwalls, from the Only report on data from these tenants list, you can choose the tenant whose data that you want to make available to this User Portal for the reports.
      • From the Select templates list, select the reports that you want to be able to run from this User Portal.
      • Tip: Select a top-level folder to grant access to all reports contained in that folder.

    • To run the Safeguarding Full report from this User Portal, under the Safeguarding Full report section, click Enable for the Safeguarding Full report in the User Portal option.
      • If you've multitenant licensed Smoothwalls, from the Restrict reports to the following tenants list, choose the tenant whose data to make available to this User Portal for the report.
    • To make the SSL VPN client archive available in this User Portal, under the VPN connection details section, select the SSL VPN client archive download option.
    • To display a welcome message when a user logs into this User Portal, under the Welcome message section, select the Welcome message option and enter the message that you want to appear to the User Portal users.
  3. Click Save.

Follow-up tasks

  • To edit an existing User Portal, under the Portals section, from the list, select the User Portal, click Select, and follow the next steps.
  • To delete a User Portal, under the Portals section, from the list, select the User Portal and click Delete.
