Adding new interface connections

Note: With the Leeds-21 release you can add more than twenty interfaces. However, they won't be replicated on any child nodes.

Add bypass ports

If you're using a Smoothwall Filter and Firewall hardware appliance, specifically S4, S8, S10, S12 or S14, you can add bypass ports. Otherwise, the Global settings section doesn't appear:

  1. On the NETWORK menu, under the Configuration submenu, click Interfaces.
  2. Under the Global settings section, select the relevant port combination to short together and click Save changes.
  3. Note: The combination of ports available for bypassing are grouped according to function on the Smoothwall Filter and Firewall hardware appliance and can't be changed.

Procedure

  1. On the NETWORK menu, under the Configuration submenu, click Interfaces.
  2. Click Add new interface and enter a meaningful Name for your interface.
  3. Choose the Type of the interface connection that you want to add:
  4. Enter a descriptive Comment for your interface and click Add.

Follow-up tasks

  • To edit an interface connection:
    1. From the Ethernet interfaces table, place your mouse cursor over the relevant interface, and click Edit.
    2. Adjust the configuration and click Save changes.
  • To delete an interface connection:
    • From the Ethernet interfaces table, select the relevant interface and click Delete.
    • Notes:
      • You can't delete a PPPoE interface, only the parent interface itself, because this is typically a port on the Smoothwall Filter and Firewall hardware appliance. To remove a PPPoE interface, you must change the interface’s Use as to Basic.
      • You can't delete a bond member, because this is a physical port on the Smoothwall Filter and Firewall hardware appliance. To remove a bond member from a bond, you must change the interface’s Role to Basic.
