About generating reports, report folders and reports for the Smoothwall User Portal

All report durations are set to cover the previous week, by default. We recommend that when you first run a report that you set a short duration and make sure that you've chosen all the correct parameters. This prevents you from running a long report with incorrect criteria. However, if your report is taking too long or you realize that you have selected incorrect criteria, you can cancel the report whilst it is in progress.

You can access all your saved reports on the Recent and saved page. Make sure that when you save your report that you give it a relevant name, for example, you could name it to represent a support case you're investigating or a HR reference. Once you have generated your report you can then export it to either save it locally or send to other colleagues. However, you can also generate a link to the report, which you can share with other colleagues that don't necessarily have access to your Smoothwall Filter and Firewall. This is more secure because you can protect the shared report link with a password of your choice and the link expires after seven days.

You can also schedule a report to be generated on a regular basis and set this to be emailed out to a group of people.

Folders

We have provided some standard reports with your Smoothwall and these are organized into report folders. The reports available to you depends on your licensed modules. You can use the supplied reports as templates to customize your own reports and you can create your own folders. However, you can't amend any of the standard supplied ones. If you want to remove any report folders that you have created, you must remove all the reports from them before you can delete the folder. Any supplied reports that we have deprecated, we have placed in the archive folder for backward compatibility only.

Tip: The user analysis folder contains some of the typical reports used in an investigation, for example, complete user audit trail, time spent browsing for a specific user or web searches for a specific user.

User Portal

You can make your reports available to your User Portal users.
